Sotto: Trillanes to be given Senate security if arrested
The Senate is willing to provide additional security detail to Senator Antonio Trillanes IV
should an arrest warrant issued against him, Senate President Vicente Sotto III said Tuesday.
The additional security will provided from the time of Trillanes’ possible arrest up to his detention, Sotto said.
“Kung ire-request niya, we will allow it,” he said.
(If he will request for it, we will allow it.)
“I’m sure if that (arrest) happens, Sen. Trillanes has promised that he will face the warrant so I do not expect anything untoward,” Sotto added.
Hence, Sotto’s remarks come ahead of a court ruling on the Department of Justice’s motion for the issuance of arrest warrant
and hold departure order in connection with the coup d’etat case filed against Trillanes over his participation in the Oakwood mutiny in 2003.
Further, the body of evidence against Trillanes has resuscitated after President Rodrigo Duterte’s withdrawal of his absolution
because of his supposed inability to apply for it appropriately and express blame for his wrongdoing.
