‘Be ‘epal’ with a purpose’- Comelec to poll bets
After admitting that it is powerless against premature campaigning activities, the Commission on Elections
(Comelec) is now singing a different tune when it comes to electioneering activities of aspirants in the May 2019 polls.
Speaking at a media forum in Manila, Comelec Spokesman James Jimenez urge candidates to use
their funds in “purposeful” activities, beginning with the forthcoming All Souls’ Day.
“We all know that those running, they do take advantage of every single social event imaginable. So they would.
Hopefully, if they do that, channel it in a good way,” said Jimenez.
“If they do such activities, do so in purposeful ends… whatever it is, make it something relevant and useful,” he added.
The election official cited as an example those with a penchant of putting up tarpaulins during public holidays.
Countenances with welcome
Rather than having coverings bearing their countenances with a welcome to the general population, Jimenez said
it would be better in the event that they would give help to those making a beeline for the territories.
“Rather than turning out with coverings with their countenances or them in Halloween outfits, why not set up roadside help for individuals going to regions,” said Jimenez.
Prior, the Comelec ambushed “almost every one of” the individuals who recorded their COCs for congressperson for officially captivating in untimely battling exercises.
The commission, nonetheless, repeated that it can’t successfully prevent applicants from taking part in untimely crusading as there no more law disallowing it.
The Comelec, however, asked all future possibility to have some delicadeza in leading electioneering exercises.
