Arroyo on Lapeña’s exchange: The President realizes what he’s doing
Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Friday declined to remark on President Rodrigo Duterte’s choice to exchange
Isidro Lapeña from the Bureau of Customs to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority,
saying just that the President “realizes what he’s doing.”
Arroyo, who was president for a long time, said he comprehends the move of Duterte.
“Let me simply say that I’ve been president and I know pretty much that the President needs to consider such a significant
number of things when he settles on his choice, so I’m not going to be a piece of the shelled nut display making remarks on his activities,” she told journalists in Sasmuan, Pampanga.
Asked on the change of leadership in the Bureau of Customs, Arroyo just said, “The President knows what he’s doing.”
On the other hand, she agreed with the appointment of military men in government posts — a practice she implemented
during her term as president..
“They are literally good soldiers that’s why,” she said.
Hence, Duterte on Thursday announced the transfer of Lapeña to TESDA amid the controversy over the P11 billion worth of shabu
that smuggled into the country. He replaced by former Armed Forces chief Rey Guerrero,
Meanwhile, Lapeña’s transfer came amid legislative inquiries the shabu smuggling controversy.
