Roque won’t win Senate race in 2019- Duterte
As Malacañang spokesman Harry Roque Jr. keeps the public guessing on his plans for the 2019 elections,
President Rodrigo Duterte has declared that Roque will not win if he runs in next year’s polls.
In his speech before the alumni of the Philippine Military Academy on Thursday Duterte advised Roque to
stay in his administration rather than run for senator in the 2019 mid-term elections.
“Si Roque, gusto mag-senador. Sabi ko, ‘Tama ka na. t*** i** diyan. Standby ka (Roque wants to be a senator. I said, ‘That’s enough. Son of a b****, you stay put),’” he said, adding that he would instead give Roque another job.
“Bigyan kita ibang trabaho. Hindi ka manalo diyan (I’ll give you a different job. You won’t win there),” the President said.
Roque was not among the top 12 bets for the Senate in a recent Pulse Asia survey, ranking 29th to 36th place among 66 probable candidates.
On Friday, he said he would think about Duterte’s offer over the weekend and confirmed that the President did offer him a position that “currently does not exist yet.”
Duterte to another job to Roque
“I will think twice about my options. I need the weekend now, to decide. It goes without saying that if I do file (my certificate of candidacy), I’m considered resigned from this position. But I do confirm as the President has said that he offered me another job. Which is still related to being spokes[man],” Roque told reporters in a news briefing in Malacañang.
He said the way by which the President talked about his conceivable political offer was “commonplace Duterte” style of “cariño fierce (well-meaning ribbing).”
However, Roque said he was thinking about whether to remain in his activity, conceding that he didn’t realize that Duterte had gone to a doctor’s facility for some restorative tests.
“Like you, I was shocked the demonstrative examination. I didn’t mislead anybody since I essentially did not know,” Roque said.
In any case, as indicated by the Palace official, he has no evil sentiments toward the President.
“Nothing by any stretch of the imagination,” Roque stated, even as he communicated worry over the general population’s view of him in the wake of the episode.
Roque to have private time
“As I stated, it’s hard to proceed except if individuals trust me and now individuals won’t trust me due to the occurrence on his wellbeing,” he included.
A previous law teacher and Kabayan party-list congressman, Roque joined the Duterte Cabinet in November a year ago.
“I comprehend that this [job]is not notwithstanding something that my ancestors delighted in, and I welcome the trust and certainty of the President that dissimilar to other spokes[men], I approached even to his every day plan. Be that as it may, you can perceive what occurred. I was oblivious and now, by what means can individuals trust me when I said he had private time and evidently he had a demonstrative examination?” he said.
Roque, inquire to whether he was frustrated, immediately answer no, in spite of his voice breaking a bit.
Before, Duterte each presented his representative, Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go and other Cabinet individuals in his addresses as “congressperson.”
