Duterte critics to rally far from SONA setting – police
Administration critics have agreed to protest away from the Batasan Pambansa on Monday when President Rodrigo Duterte delivers his third State of the Nation Address, police said on the eve of the event.
Thousands of demonstrators traditionally march towards the legislative building during SONAs. Last year, Duterte met with protesters outside the Batasan complex after laying down his legislative agenda before Congress.
Anti-administration demonstrators this year will converge along Commonwealth Avenue while Duterte’s supporters mount their own mass action in Batasan Road, said national police spokesperson Senior Supt. Benigno Durana, Jr.
The game plan, he stated, was a result of counsel with activists.
Game Plan among Police Officials
“Hindi lang ito security design, course of action na ginawa ng ating mga kapulisan at included organizations… Ito po ay pinagkasunduan kasama po iyung mga hostile to and genius Duterte rallyists,” he told radio DZMM.
(This isn’t only a security design or a game plan among police and included offices… This is a concurrence with hostile to and genius Duterte rallyists.)
Hence, the Commission on Human Rights has been welcome to screen the dissents and guarantee that police practice most extreme resilience against demonstrators, included Durana.
Around 6,000 officers will anchor the Batasang Pambansa complex for the President’s SONA on Monday evening, police prior said.
Duterte won’t meet nonconformists after his discourse, Special Assistant to the President Bong Go said.
