Indeed, it’s more fun in the Philippines in 2017 as 6,620,908 foreign tourists marked the unparalleled growth of the country’s tourism arrivals. It grew as much as 11% compared to 2016’s 5,967,005.
“We expect this to further improve with the Department of Tourism’s agenda to promote new and underrated destinations through an expanded marketing plan,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a press briefing.
This tourism milestone came after a series of security concerns, political noise and travel advisories against the Philippines last year.
In a statement, Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo said, “We overcame these challenges with the innate resiliency of the Filipinos and the cooperation of everybody. And for that we are very thankful.”
For thes year 2018, the department is targeting a 7.4 international tourist arrivals.
“For this year, with an expanded marketing plan, improved quality, human resource capacity, and service standards, we will continue to push for new and underrated destinations. We are also looking at the farm and faith tourism sectors.” Teo stated.
Sports and adventure tourism would be the centerpiece of 2018 as the country hosts sporting events like Strongest Man, and the Iron Man, among others.
