Communist Part of the Philippines New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) already declared a unilateral ceasefire with the government this Christmas season and in time with their anniversary.
In a statement written in their website, Philippine Revolution Web Central, the unilateral decision of ceasefire shall be in effect from 6:00 p.m. of December 23 to 6:00 p.m. of December 26; and 6:00 p.m. of December 30 to 6:00 p.m. of January 2, 2018.
“During this period, all NPA units and people’s militias shall cease and desist from carrying out offensive military campaigns and operations against the uniformed armed personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and its paramilitaries, and the Philippine National Police (PNP) of the Government of the Republic of the Philippines,” the statement addressed.
A day before, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte already declared Christmas ceasefire to the communist rebel group hoping that the later will follow suit.
The said ceasefire given by the government will takes effect from 6 p.m. on December 23 to 11:59 p.m. on December 26, and the same hours on December 30 to January 2, 2018.
Malacañang had said that the truce was meant to “lessen the apprehension of the public this Christmas season.”
On the other hand, the statement issued by the NPA obliged its members to still maintain a degree of alertness and preparation against any hostile action or movements by enemy armed forces. It justified the said alertness of what had happen during the 6-month unilateral ceasefire last year wherein the AFP occupide and deployed troops in barangays nationwide.
