House of Representatives completely removed the budgets in 2018 of several congressmen, particularly coming from the Liberal party or oppositions of the Duterte administration.
Ifugao Representative Teddy Baguilat of Liberal party, disappointed with the move, said “Exacting revenge on the genuine opposition solons by removing projects dedicated not to them but to their citizens shows their desire for autocracy, for dangerous dictatorship. The healthy exchange of opposing views is crucial in a democracy.”
“As a genuine opposition it is called an assault to democracy with a combination of vengeance,” he said.
Albay 1st District Representative Edcel Lagman also said President Duterte is punishing the people and lost their democracy as citizens in this country.
“Why should they include the citizens if only their representatives were responsible for what they doing?” he said.
These are the Liberal Party Representative members who’s district budgets for the infrastructure were slashed:
*Quezon City 3rd District Representative Bolet Banal
*Quezon City 6th District Representative Jose Christopher Belmonte
*Cavite 1st District Representative Francis Gerald Abaya
*Quezon 2nd District Vicente Alcala
*Dinagat Representative Kaka Bag-ao
Furthermore, there are also non-LP members and are part of the majority that are included in the cut-off like Representative Imelda Marcos and Davao Del Norte 2nd District Representative Antonio Floriendo.
