The House of Representatives and the Senate meet in a joint session on Dec. 13 to discuss whether Martial Law in Mindanao will be granted according to Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez.
Alvarez said their still time to tackle about the said issue on the Senate.
“It can still be done if they Malacañang transmit the request to us officially on Monday, we can already schedule the joint session on Wednesday.”
Dec. 13 is the last session day of the two chambers of Congress were it resumes in Jan 2018.
But Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III said, “I haven’t talked with Speaker Alvarez yet. But we can have a joint session on Thursday so we can finish regular legislative work up to Wednesday.”
President Rodrigo Duterte called the National Democratic Front earlier to off peace talks and to protest rebels as deadly attacks of the government forces the CPP-NPA.
Duterte said, “Let’s give time for a cooling off with the Communist Party of the Philippines.”
On the other hand, Interior Undersecretary Catalino Cuy said the extension of Martial Law would allow government forces to continue offensives against the IS sympathizers.
