Former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile lashed prominent personalities of the Catholic church in the Philippines. He commented that why Archbishop Villegas, Bishop Cruz and Cardinal Tagle were very silent on the death of Horacio “Atio” Castillo III the law student from University of Santo Tomas (UST) who died through fraternity hazing — but very loud in criticizing the extra-judicial killings committed allegedly by the Duterte Administration.
The senator commented, “Atio was a student of UST and the UST is owned by the Catholic church, but why does Archbishop Villegas, Bishop Cruz and Cardinal Tagle are all silent regarding this issue?”
Enrile even lambasted human rights advocates. He stated his disdain to all those that are against the current administration crying out loud the EJK issue. They are even more interested in investigating the killings in Marawi City. Enrile explained, “When a man in uniform killed somebody, they are very loud, and in chorus!”
He believed that they knew what happened but still tolerated the act. “The act of one is the act of all, they are fraternity and there’s a conspiracy,” he said.
Atio died during an initiation rites/hazing of the Aegis Juris Fraternity last September 17, 2017.
